Ferrari F450 prototype spied!

AutoWeek has some pics of a prototype Ferrari being loaded onto a truck; it appears to be the ‘F450′, the successor to the F430 expected to be unveiled later this year (probably at Frankfurt in September). See AutoWeek’s website for more pics.

GTA Motor’s new supercar

Well here’s a supercar you won’t be seeing in the US anytime soon! It’s from the Spanish company GTA Motor, is powered by a Dodge Viper’s V10, and will be, well expensive. But you knew that. Complete details won’t be released until April, but what we do know, apart from the motor, is that its chassis will be made from kevlar, carbon fiber, and titanium ($$$), will use a sequential gearbox (with an optional auto!), and have everything you expect in an expensive supercar. Tesla Model S sedan

Tesla unveiled their Model S electric powered sedan today, with a projected price of just under $50k. That price gets you a battery pack good for around 160 miles; optional battery packs are good for 230 miles and 300 miles – thus highlighting one of the issues with electric cars, the cost of the batteries. That’s OK though, it’s a smart way of bringing this to market. If all goes well, it’ll go into production at the end of 2011, but that’s a big IF. Tesla is a small startup and building a car like this is going to take some work…let’s hope they can pull it off! Read more over at Autoblog.

Melkus RS2000

Shown here is the new Melkus RS2000, a small, lightweight sports car from Germany. Power comes from an engine yet to be announced, but is likely to be a small four cylinder producing around 200hp. More details will be announced later this year, but if you live in the US, don’t hold your breath…only 25 per year will be built, so the chances of this being imported to the US are slim to none.

Toyota is working on a new MR2!
I’m a huge fan of the Toyota MR2, but greet this news with mixed emotions. On the one hand, it’s great to hear Toyota is working on a new MR2. It’s the rest of the news that has me worried. You see, Toyota is supposedly going to make this next MR2 a hybrid! I’m skeptical of any company’s ability to incorporate the current or even next generation of hybrid technology into a sports car, without it having any negative effects on the drivability, handling, and overall fun factor. I hope Toyota proves my concerns baseless. (more at AutoExpress)

Lotus Exige S

In addition to the production version of the Lotus Evora (which doesn’t appear different than what they’ve already shown), Lotus brought this, the latest Exige S. It’s pretty similar to the current model, but has a larger rear wing and Porsche-like front grill openings. (via AutoExpress)
