Ford Iosis

ford_iosis-1-t.jpgOnce again, Ford shows that they have talented designers and can produce a beautiful concept car, like this Iosis sedan. Like so many times before, though, don’t expect to see anything like this in showroom floors, especially in the US. Ford just isn’t capable of producing quality cars that look this good. Still, if they managed to, and if they gave it the driving dynamics found in Mazdas (maybe base this on the Mazda6 platform?), this would be a car that would get auto enthusiasts’ attention. They’ll be showing this at the Frankfurt show; see the rest of this post for more pictures or read more about it over at Pistonheads.

Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder ads

Autoblog.it posted links to a couple of teaser ads for the upcoming Gallardo Spyder. Naturally, they don’t really show much, just bits of what the car will look like. If you want to see some actual pictures of it, refer to this old post on this website from back in June, when the Gallardo Spyder was spied in a photo shoot.

Ferrari Conciso: what could have been

ferrari_conciso_4s.jpgWay back in 1991 (boy, does time fly!), Ferrari made an interesting concept, based on a 328. Named the Conciso, this car exuded a level of simplicity and driving purity that, alas, seems sorely missing in their latest cars. Granted, they make some of the best and fastest cars on the planet, but one minute behind the wheel of a Lotus Elise will remind you of the driving pleasure that cars are really all about. The Conciso embodies much of the spirit that Lotus later put into the design of its Elise; what would have happened if Ferrari had moved forward with this concept…? Few cars on the road have more electronics gizmos and gadgets than even Ferrari’s entry-level model, the F430. Yet, is any of that really necessary to enjoy driving a car? C’mon Ferrari, how about building us a basic, pure driving machine? More pictures after the link. (source)

More details emerging on Fisker Coachworks

fisker_tramonto.jpgThough the car wasn’t due to be unveiled until the Frankfurt motor show in September, details are beginning to leak out. The latest comes from a post at The Car Connection that was quickly pulled (oops?). The article described how Fisker will be using existing cars, such as the BMW 6-series and Mercedes SL55, as the basis for their cars, appealing to a clientele that craves the uniqueness and attention to detail that coachbuilders offered in the early 20th century (and charging around $250k for the privilege).

Peugeot 907 GT

peugeot907gt_1s.jpgIf you missed the chance to see the Peugeot 907 GT concept at the Paris motor show last year, you’ll have another chance – catch it at Frankfurt next month. It’s a beautiful concept coupe, reminding me in some ways of the Jaguar XK, though with its own, uniquely French flair. It’s a nice sign of things to come from that company. Gizmag has a nice article about this car, including more pictures.

Quite a bit of news has come out of the recent LOG (Lotus Owners Gathering), specifically:

  • The Exige will be coming to the US, arriving in January (more)
  • A supercharged version of the Exige is a virtual certainty (especially in light of increased competition in the market segment from cars such as the Porsche Cayman)
  • The Circuit Car will be offered in the US next year
  • The new Esprit will be launched in all markets in December 2007
